I am following a beginners tutorial on the R twitteR package and I've run into a roadblock. (Tutorial URL: https://sites.google.com/site/miningtwitter/questions/sentiment/analysis)

Rather than importing a list of tweets through the searchTwitter function detailed in section 4, I am importing a data frame of tweets from a MySQL database. Im able to import the tweets from MySQL fine, but when I try to execute:

wine_txt = sapply(wine_tweets, function(x) x$getText())

I get an error:

Error in x$getText : $ operator is invalid for atomic vectors

The data is already in data.frame form, and I've subsequently forced it into data.frame again just to make sure and I still get the same error. I've pasted my full code below, any help would be greatly appreciated.

$ is for grabbing a column of a data frame (or list etc.), you can't use it to apply a function as you are. You want something like

getText(x)

there.
