I am trying to implement Socket where client send sentence to server and server replies back two integer valeus pcount and ncount. I can receive both this but first recv operation receives both values and also appends some other data to buffer.

I receive output like this:

Received string 12itic worst nice   //Here there should be only 1 2. Why 'itic ..' gets appended. And why 1 and 2 both does not get printed one after another

It doesn't 'append some other data to the buffer'. The junk was already there. – EJP Jul 6 '13 at 1:36

You forgot to design and implement a protocol. Network communication doesn't work by magic. If you have a notion of an application-level message, you have to write code to send and receive application-level messages. You haven't done this, so of course it won't happen.

Also:

The %s format specifier is only for C-style strings. It's not suitable for arbitrary data. How would it know how many bytes to print?

Take a look at the specifications for other protocols that have application level messages like SMTP, HTTP, IRC, and so on. You have to define what a message is and how they are marked and then write code to identify the message boundaries. – David Schwartz Jul 5 '13 at 9:03

Then call recv() again. You have to keep calling recv until you get a complete message. And that means the receiver has to know somehow what a complete message is. You haven't even defined what a "complete message" is, so how can you expect your code to know how to receive one? – David Schwartz Jul 5 '13 at 11:28

The recv function does not add a nul character to terminate the received string. You have to add it yourself, like this:

buffer[bytecount]=0;

Notice the -1 in buffer len, to make sure there's room for the nul character.

Yeah i did it and it make improvement. When I put "memset(buffer, 0, 1024);" after first recv() it receives exactly first sent values from server. But does not show second count values sent from server! After first recv() again I put "memset(buffer, 0, 1024);" and then recv(), in this case it goes into constantly listening mode! – user123 Jul 5 '13 at 11:15
    
If you want the first call to recv read only one character you should pass 1 instead of buffer_len to recv. – Joni Jul 5 '13 at 11:32
    
Size of the values that I will recv may change. So how could i spcecify it? Is it possible that first I sent size of the message I want to send and then recv() that much amount only? But in this case problem could data type. In socket I can send char* only, not int values! – user123 Jul 5 '13 at 11:49
    
You can send the length of a message before sending the message, or always use fixed-length messages, there are many ways to design a network protocol – Joni Jul 5 '13 at 12:02
    
Thanks, but send() methods sends only char* value. So at recv side i have to convert char* to int. Is it only the way? or I cant directly send int value? – user123 Jul 5 '13 at 13:13

Problem solved:

at sender:

just took and array, Now I can send any receive any numbers of values! It's so easy!
