Given the following table definition and constraints:

R (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J)

FD = {  A,B,C,D     ->  E, F, G, H, I J
    B, C, D     -> E, F
    A       -> G, H, I, J
    E       -> F
    H, I        -> J }
  1. Based on the FDs above, what is the primary key of the table?

  2. Is the table definition in 1NF? Why or why not? If not, convert the table to 1NF table(s).

  3. Is/are the table(s) in 2NF? Why or why not? If not, convert the table(s) to table(s) that are in 2NF. Explain why they are now in 2NF?

  4. Are the tables in 3NF? Why or why not? If not, convert the table to 3NF. Explain why they are now in 3NF?

  5. List all of the foreign keys in question 4d. Identify them by the table name and state which table(s) and corresponding attribute(s) they relate to.

i need help to understand and obtain the answers to above questions. Thanks.

If you need to use SO in this interview, then clearly you are not good-enough. If we help you, then you will use us to get a job. If you get that job, you will not be good-enough for the company and will take the job from a person who really deserves it. This is called cheating and I am not going to help you. However, notice a few interesting facts: You are asking several questions in a single question-posts. It is not probable you will get any help. The only key is {ABCD}. The relation R is not in 2NF.

Every database textbook I've seen includes algorithms for deducing all candidate keys from a set of functional dependencies. If you don't have a textbook, David Maier's The Theory of Relational Databases is available free from the author's faculty web page.
