I am trying to add a column next to GE that has a list of all the Placemarks, as links or buttons, and when you click on those links it will exit the tour and jump to (or flyto) that placemark's location and pop-up the balloon.

the KML has a list of FlyTo's and LookAt's inside of a tour as well as Placemarks inside a document :).

Here is an Example of my KML placemark:

You can modify your current walkKmlDom implementation as that is already walking the kml dom and checking for Placemarks. i.e.

walkKmlDom(fetchedKml, function() {
            if (this.getType() == 'KmlPlacemark' && this.getID().toLowerCase() == curr_pm.toLowerCase()) {
                obj_pm = this;
                    return false; // stop the DOM walk here.
            } 

Simply use that to build a list of links to the placemarks. You can use getUrl on the placemark object to do this. See https://developers.google.com/earth/documentation/accessors

walkKmlDom(fetchedKml, function() {
  if (this.getType() == 'KmlPlacemark') {
    // create a link to the placemark
    links.push('<a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="flyto(' + this.getUrl() + ')"> ' + this.getName() + ' </a>');
    // rest of your current conditional logic here
    // if(this.getID().toLowerCase()) etc..
  } 
}

for (index = 0; index < links.length; ++index) {
  console.log(links[index]);
}

Then you need to implement the flyto helper function to actually fly to the locations and open the balloons when the links are clicked. Something like the following should work.

  ge.setBalloon(placemark.getBalloon());

hey thank you so much for responding :) but i still seem be having issues and im sure its me being a total goof when it comes to this. like i said im new :(. but im getting this error when i create a link to the flyto function TypeError: placemark is null [Break On This Error] var point = placemark.getGeometry(); –  Gutseo Jul 16 '13 at 18:32

i cant thank you enough for helping me out with this. it seems that it is adding the URL like it needs to via the script you gave me but it seems the the url#placemark is not actually pulling the placemark data from the KML file. every placemark comes back null.. i have added an example of my placemark KML formatting as well as the updated HTML with the changes you've given me. i understand if you don't want to help out anymore and thank you for helping me so far :) –  Gutseo Jul 17 '13 at 16:25
    
I would say it is the cache busting you have on the url - Math.floor((Math.random()*100000)+1) - remove this and it should work. The reason being the two urls; where the kml was loaded from and the parameter passed to getElementByUrl must match exactly. The query is making the api think that the call is referring to another document. –  Fraser Jul 17 '13 at 17:50
    
also, to output the links you could simply create and empty div in your html where you want your links. i.e. <div id="links"></div> then simply replace the line console.log(links[index]); with document.getElementById('links').innerHTML += links[index]; –  Fraser Jul 17 '13 at 17:55
