I have been able to access a linux computer that is located in a different city using SSH for many months. Yesterday, I was running a cronjob that I believe started to use lots of memory due to the fact that it was being called every minute. Later in the day when I tried to SSH back in, I got the following message:

My theory is that the processes invoked by the cronjob hogged the memory on the machine and as such killed the SSH process. Now I can no longer access the machine, although I can still ping it without any problems.

Is there any way to reboot the machine without SSH or having direct access to the machine? Or is there any way to kill all the process invoked by the cronjob that are hogging the memory?

Not if you can't successfully log in. You'll have to talk to a local admin who has physical access to the system, probably... Note, however, the debug1 messages definitely indicate that sshd is still running there - that's not the source of your problem... –  twalberg Jul 19 '13 at 16:07

I agree with twalberg. Just a suggestion for the future: You may want to think about installing a remote access card in this server, in case this ever happens again. This will enable you to remotely access the console of the server (by way of a java interface), or power-cycle the machine if necessary. Remote access cards can be lifesavers in situations like this. –  mti2935 Jul 19 '13 at 16:15
