I want to request a server and receive JSON response from it. As I should follow MVC, I am struggling to implement this(I don't know which method I should do in Model and which I should do in controller).

Also I don't know how to convert the received hex values to NSData or NSDictionary in asynchronous request.

Thanks in advance for your help. Flow with sample code is appreciated. I'm new to server-client programming.

There is (generally) no need to implement a delegate for NSURLConnection. The vast majority of use cases can take advantage of sendAsynchronousRequest:queue:completionHandler: rather than implement a delegate (client SSL authentication is one of the few exceptions). If you need to authenticate to this server and do NOT require client SSL, use NSURLCredential. Again, there is no need to implement a delegate, NSURLCredentialStorage will do all the work for you.

Create a controller class that makes the network requests to update the model. To turn the NSData you get back from the network into objects, use NSJSONSerialization's JSONObjectWithData:options:error: .

To answer your first question, I would put any individual upload or download operation into its own class. So if you have to download some JSON from a server, make a class that handles that. If you also have to send some client data back to the server, make a class for that as well.

Doing it this way makes it easier to separate your tasks, especially because of the nature of NSURLConnection and its delegate methods. Without separating you'll be using a lot of if () blocks to figure out what to do with the delegate.

I also set the custom classes up to be the delegate of the NSURLConnection, and define another protocol for that specific task.

For example, if I had an app that uploads a text to a server, and downloads several pieces of text, I'd have two classes: UploadClass and DownloadClass. I would create a protocol for each one, like UploadClassProtocol and DownloadClassProtocol. Each protocol would have a couple of methods, see below:
