In R, I am encountering an error using the pgmm() function in the plm package that I can't resolve through debugging. Here is the call that results in the error:

I think the weird behaviour happens around these lines in the function pgmm():

data <- eval(mf, parent.frame())
index <- index(data)

When it is generated, the object data seems to have a correct 'index' attribute, but when index(data) is executed, this attribute is set to NULL. This may have something to do with the call to rownames(mf).

It's not set to NULL, but rather a factor of NAs. The call to rownames is fine, but this is then passed to as.numeric. This would make sense if the result of the rownames call were a factor, but it's a character. Hmm. –  Peyton Jul 26 '13 at 2:23
