I have this view in my backbone app,

render: function() {

This uses this template,

What I am wanting to do is update the variable tasks when a new task is saved, the code that saves a task looks like this,

I thought I would be able to add this into to the success callback,

var tabbedInterface = app.TabbedInterfaceView;
tabbedInterface.render()

but this seems to do nothing, you can see the render method at the top of this post. Am I doing something massively wrong, I thought that re-rendering my tab view would work but it does not.

You need to call new to instantiate the app.TabbedInterfaceView;

var tabbedInterface = new app.TabbedInterfaceView();
tabbedInterface.render();

Also, you may want to bind an event handler in you app.TabbedInterfaceView that listens for changes to tasks and calls render.

app.TabbedInterfaceView = Backbone.View.extend({
   initialize: function() {
     this.listenTo(app.tasks,'change',this.render); // when app.tasks changes - re-render
   },
   // your existing code below //

Yes, I have console.log("TabbedInterfaceView Triggered") in my render function, and I can see that in my console. –  Udders Jul 30 '13 at 8:20
    
Is your view rendered? Perhaps you aren't updating app.tasks? –  fbynite Jul 30 '13 at 8:30
    
Certainly updating app.tasks as the listenTo also gets triggered. –  Udders Jul 30 '13 at 8:44
