Hopefully these screenshots help explain my issue - This is how my uitablecell looks like on first load(notice the title label in the cell):

If I scroll below and come back up, it becomes right (no longer ellipsisized, the way it should have been on first load):

I am calculating the dynamic labelsize and applying it as a constraint. Here is the relevant code (the following is written in ruby as part of an IOS rubymotion project ):

I am guessing the issue is I am not applying the constraints at the right time? Please enlighten me stackoverflow gurus!

In the first image, the title label is ellipsisized - the height of the uilabel is not getting set right. In the second image, you can see that it gets set correctly –  bpn Jul 31 '13 at 1:20
    
Have you tried filling the cell in tableView(tableView, cellForRowAtIndexPath: indexPath), rather than willDisplayCell? –  alxmitch Jul 31 '13 at 3:20

Here's how I have been handling variable-height labels:

  • set lineBreakMode to NSLineBreakByWordWrapping
  • set numberOfLines to 0
  • set a preferred maximum layout width via setPreferredMaxLayoutWidth:
  • setup auto layout constraints as you normally would

I also went a step further and showed you how to setup variable-height UITableViewCells.

From your screenshot, it seems like all cells are set to a fixed height.

I was able to fix this by removing all constraints on the @title_label ( i was using autolayout earlier to position the label) and converting it to fixed coordinates. So in fill()

expectedTitleLabelSize = @title_label.text.sizeWithFont(@title_label.font, constrainedToSize:[App.window.frame.size.width - 50, Float::MAX], lineBreakMode: NSLineBreakByWordWrapping)  
@title_label.frame = [[35,60],[270, expectedTitleLabelSize.height]]

This solved my issue- still wondering how to get this to work with constraints though.
