I am trying to use R to do directional statistics for data on Peak over Threshold flood events. I have the date the POT occurred and the flow value. I have been trying to convert the date from the d/m/y format into a julian day and represent this on the circumference of a circle. I can convert the date into the julian day or the day of year but I am struggling to take account of leap years when calculating the angle the day will represent on the circle.

How do I use R in the Julian date format to plot the date of occurrences on a circular plot that takes account of leap years.
