I am trying to get the following results from a table that contains data in a mediumtext XML format.

I would like all occurrences of text between the opening delimiter, L7p:AuditDetailAssertion, and the next occurence of closing delimiter /L7p:AuditDetailAssertion.

However, the difficult part is that there may be one or multiple occurrences of these strings.

This is how the XML shows up in the column when selecting it:

The question as stated above does not make sense. If you want only specific values, select only specific values. If you can't, you have a logical error. You should show the real table contents instead of a fake example from dual. –  DanFromGermany Sep 4 '13 at 18:35

this is a job for app code, not SQL. Retrieve the XML from the db, then do what you need in your app code. It could be done in sql, but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. –  Bohemian Sep 4 '13 at 21:00
