I have a program that will sort a string using a selection sort algorithm method. The program will take in a string entered by the user and sort it using the selection sort algorithm. My problem is when I run it I get an error saying that "fetch address not aligned on word boundary." What should I do to fix this? I am relatively new to programing in mips.

Looking at your code, you are trying to sort characters, but you appear to be using instructions lw and sw which are intended for full words while characters of a string are single bytes.

lw and sw will fail if the supplied address isn't word aligned (as would happen if looking through each character in a string).

If you mean to store and load bytes (one character) then yes; lb and sb are the appropriate instructions –  Konrad Lindenbach Oct 12 '13 at 23:11
    
I fixed that but the result printed is just empty. Any suggestions? –  user2837034 Oct 13 '13 at 21:05
