I'm running across this very strange behavior when using the IChannel interface. Basically what the code does is it spawns a process that loads CLR 4 (our application natively loads CLR 2 / .NET 3.5) and hosts a "ServiceContract" which will do some work and return a "DataContract" (serialize it, return it, deserialize it). Here is the code that spawns the IChannel:

Now, this works fine and creates my service-hosting "IChannel." I've included the "CreateBinding" function so you can see that I am, in fact setting the "ReaderQuotas.MaxStringContentLength" property, yet the following stack trace clearly tells me to set the MaxStringContentLength property, as it has exceeded the quota.

Where would you set this quota? IChannel doesn't expose this stuff... EDIT: This is all client side it seems, since the deserialization is failing. –  user1449783 Oct 14 '13 at 15:51

The quota is part of the binding, same as you see here, you need to ensure the bindings are the same on the client as the server, or at least that the server doesn't use more restrictive size quotas than the client. The code you're showing here is creating a channel to consume the service, but not how the service is hosted. –  Preston Guillot Oct 14 '13 at 16:01
    
I added the overarching code (that calls "CreateClientProxy") to my original post. IHostService is apparently an in-house service. I can look into what that does if it's deemed important. That "CreateServiceHostServiceProxy" function uses the same "CreateBinding()" function that I copied into my post, which does set the MaxStringContentLength property..... Sorry - I had to wait for a build, deploy, do some testing, etc... I thought the problem was in the "OpenService" function 'cause it wasn't using the "CreateBinding" function which sets all of the quotas and things, but when I did change the code to use the "CreateBinding," it still didn't work. I added the OpenService function to my original post. –  user1449783 Oct 14 '13 at 20:20

You might try to set your readerQuotas in the CreateBinding() method as shown below:
