I'm very new to attempting programming, and I'm not even sure how to ask my question correctly. I have an error which prevents me from displaying a random card number to user when they leave the program. (See line 21: Console.WriteLine("\n" + "Your lucky card For today is: " + yourCard[luckyFiftyTwo])); The array, the randomizer, etc are all contained within the method 'Get Fortune'.

I can slice the method up, and put two a second randomizer in, but that would have me repeating a line of code to do that, and it seems to me that I ought to be able call the instance (i've no idea again if i'm saying that correctly, please feel free to correct me, i really want to learn - thank you) to when someone exits the program. So i need to be able to pass the result of 'yourCard[luckyFiftyTwo]' out of the getFortune method and into/make accessible within the magic8ball method.

Any help is appreciated. I hope I've explained what i'm trying to do. Again, i'm really dumb and trying to do things beyond the scope of what my teacher is asking - i figure this is a good way to learn (We aren't even using arrays yet - i coudl do it all with breakCase statements, but i thought an array would be clearner/tighter).

I'm babbling now. Help please.

One way to do this is to have GetFortune() return the last result -- save it in a local variable:

string lastCard;
do
{
    lastCard = GetFortune();
} while (PlayAgain()); //while they keep wanting to play
Console.WriteLine("Thank you for consulting the wisdom of the Magic 8 Ball.");
Console.WriteLine("\n" + "Your lucky card For today is: " + lastCard);

The GetFortune() should look like this:

public string GetFortune() //produces random results
{
    // ...

    return yourCard[luckyFiftyTwo];
}

As a side (syntax) note, you can initialize arrays using inline syntax, like this:

String[] responses = new String
{
    "It is certain.",
    "It is decidedly so.",
    "Yes definitely.",
    "You may rely on it.",
    // etc
};

Thank you very much for the help, that pulled everything together in a very simple elegant method. Thank you very much for the help McGarnagle. I am aware of the simple method for a string initialization into an array, but as i have 54 response with the cards i went with the key'd method so as to keep an accurate count.
