# how to determine transmission delay between two hosts if there are 2 routers and 3 links?

there are 2 routers and 3 links between Host A and Host B.Each link has transmission rate of 4 , 5 and 6 Mbps. How to calculate total transmission delay to send 8 packets from A to B. No other delays. Packet size is 2 Mbits.

is my calculation right : Transmission delay : 2Mbits/4Mbps + 2Mbits/5Mbps + 2Mbits/6Mbps (for first packet) But I also have a doubt that when the first packet shall travel from 1st router to second router the next packet shall be at the 1st router. How to then calculate its transmission time?

The link is not going to have only your test packet alone. IT will have packets from other nodes as well right, so not all network bandwidth is available for your packet. If at all there is anything like transmission time in your case - It will be the time difference the time first packet of your 2Mbits data reaches destination and the last packet reaches the destination. –  goldenmean Nov 1 '13 at 16:29
