I tried to develop an app that retrieves json response from tumblr. What I do is this:

Chunk of code above can run perfectly on simulator. However, when I put this on the real device, it only works when the device is connected to WIFI. once it is using mobile internet connection, it says HTTP error code 411. I look up on internet, it says radio service error. I am confident that the code is correct, is there any idea how to get it right????? I believe when 411 happens, it goes to IOException!

Can you tell us which connection method your code is using, specifically what connection method (WIFi, Direct TCP, BES) is being selected by this code "factory.getHttpConnection(url)". Also is this valid? "final ByteBuffer byteBuffer = new ByteBuffer(inputStream); String response = byteBuffer.getString();" – Peter Strange Oct 29 '13 at 10:07
    
I edit the content to have HttpConnectionFactory class. that is valid, I use this chunk of code to retrieve data from Facebook. just dont know why it does not work here... – Hammy Lin Oct 29 '13 at 11:02

Sorry I did not want to see the code, I wanted you to determine which connection method it was using. You will need to debug or log to do that. And if you are getting an HTTP code 411, then it is complaining about the content length. Check that yourself - search Google. Also, the headers say you are sending UTF-8, but in fact you are not, you need data.getBytes("UTF-8") when setting both the length and the data to be sent. I have another thought in my mind. Could it be that I dont use thread to get the data from the tumblr server so that is why i kept getting the error? – Hammy Lin Oct 30 '13 at 9:31
    
If you don't use a Thread, then that is a problem, however an HTTP code 411 is not the result that you would get. Instead your application would (on a device, not on a Simulator) get terminated by the OS. – Peter Strange Oct 30 '13 at 10:00
