# How to calculate the weighted value without loop?

Sorry for asking trivial question. Here is my example data:

For a given day and a symbol, there are two values(V1, V2) in table 'x'.

``````

For a given day, every value (V1, V2) has three groups weight(w1, w2, w3).

How to calculate the weighted value by the two tables without loop?** For example in '20130101', V1 and V2 of 'x1' is 1 and 3 respectively. Then searching table 'y' for the date '20130101' and V1 and V2, we get 3 groups weights. The weighted value is calculated as:

``````    wv1=1*0.5 + 3*0.5=2
wv2=1*0.3 + 3*0.7=2.4
wv3=1*0.2 + 3*0.8=2.6
``````

The result table looks like:

This can extended depending on how general a solution you want. For example, if you cannot assume that `x` and `y` are sorted by period and matched one-to-one, then you need to first do a call to `match`:

vals<-Reduce(`+`,lapply(ysplit,function(z) x[,as.character(z\$symbol[1])]*z[,3:5]))
