I allocated and mapped highmem pages in my init method of a module:

Which worked well and generated output in log. via dmesg:

Now, in exit, I'm doing something like this:

kunmap(highmem_page); //will unmap only ? can it free too? highly doubtful!
__free_pages( highmem_page, 3 ); //will free the pages?

I think kunmap() should unmap the highmem pages from the kernel's virtual address space. Is my understanding right here? Then __free_pages() should free the allocated pages.

However when I try this dmesg shows something I can't comprehend:

Now, what do I do?

So, how do I unmap and free the allocated pages from HIGHMEM?

kmap maps only one page whose structure is being passed. But still, the program should free the pages correctly as _free_pages() frees all the pages allocated via alloc_pages(). Try writing a basic functionality module to allocate only one page(order 1) and then free it. If that works, then somewhere in your module, the code is trying to access the un-mapped pages.
