I have to first generate an infinite list containing fib series using curried functions. Then i have to create an infinite list containing the entire fib sequence. After this i have to create an infinite containing only the even numbers from the entire fib sequence. I am stuck in an assignment question for my ML class in college.

I have done the first but i am now stuck with the filter part.

datatype 'a inflist = NIL 
                    | CONS of 'a * (unit -> 'a inflist);

 fun fib a b= CONS(a, fn() => fib b (a+b));
 (* val fib =fn : int -> int -> int inflist *)

 val fibs = fib 0 1;
 (* val fibs= CONSc(0,fn) : int infist *)

Now is the general format of FILTER function :

fun filter p []= []
  if p x 
     then x::filter p xs
  else 
      filter p xs;

If so how do i use it to filter out even numbers from fibs?

fun even n= 
  if (n mod 2 = 0) then true
  else false;

filter (fn (n) => even (n, fibs));

Is this how it works? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You can't because that filter function works with lists, not with your data type inflist. And I am pretty sure I had already answered this before. –  Edwin Dalorzo Nov 8 '13 at 17:07
    
I dont understand how to incorporate the filter function into fibs to get the even numbers. you said: ` val evens = filter even; ` I dont understand how this works. how is the function calling even on the infinite list , fibs ? I'm very confused. –  user2948246 Nov 8 '13 at 18:40
