During the process of educating myself on JAX-RS and JPA. I stumbled upon the following exception when i ran the project on Glassfish server 3.1.2 . However JPA implementation is working fine as a standalone application.

I am using Eclipse Kepler IDE , Glassfish Server 3.1.2 ,Jersey for JAX-RS, Eclipselink 2.3 for JPA Implementation and PostgresSQL for database.

I don't see how this could work in standalone without some changes. ProductType Entity has a @OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) relationship to ProductItem which will require a relationship table defaulting to name "ProductType_ProductItem".

This doesn't seem correct as I find it strange that both ProductType and ProductItem have a productCode used as their IDs. This seems like a OneToOne relationship between them.

Regardless, the OneToMany is not set up correctly unless you plan to use a relation table. It should be removed or changed so that the table or joincolumn you wish to use is specified.

I fixed this by changing in ProductType class

@OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL)
    private List<ProductItem> item;

to

@OneToMany(orphanRemoval = true)
    @JoinColumn(name = "\"productCode\"")
    private List<ProductItem> item;

By this i understood that JoinColumn should be used in unidirectional relation to specify the persistence provider the foreignKey (here productCode is FK in ProductItem)

However the former still works when i just run it as standalone which is
