I am trying to create a simple interface to access the name array with first, last, previous and next functionality. But the global variable I am using as a position tracker is not working. I have already referred to various question. Would really appreciate the help. Here is the code.

You don't need the global position_track statement at the top. You need to use global only inside the functions. –  Ashish Nitin Patil Nov 14 '13 at 15:00
    
..And FYI, using globals are a bad practice. –  aIKid Nov 14 '13 at 15:01

Too many typos. Plus, you don't need to declare a global in the outermost program space, just in the function defs. Corrected working code ->

It was again a typo in pre_value. position_track.set(len(name_array - 1)) should be position_track.set(len(name_array) - 1) –  Ashish Nitin Patil Nov 14 '13 at 15:17

Well not at all. Your update option is not being used! I don't see any other issues with it. You might need another button for that task. Also, if you are going to update the name_array you must not make it a list of tuples, but, a list of lists. –  Ashish Nitin Patil Nov 14 '13 at 15:33
