In C++, with VS2012, i would like to get the Mac adress and convert it in car formatting. I Use sprintf_s function() in order to convert in car mode. In debug mode, all is ok, but, in release mode, the sprint_s function don't execute properly ! It appear to exit my programm !

I don't know why !

Anyone could help me please ?

Here is a little sample which demonstrate my problem. I tested in on severals pc's :

Your code works in debug and release for me. It does print gibberish though as the values in the array aren't normal printable characters. Have you used the debugger to see what's happening? You're not checking the return value from sprintf_s so I'm not sure how you have determined that is the problem. Is it calling the invalid parameter handler? –  Retired Ninja Nov 27 '13 at 22:02

You can't use %c to print the bytes of a MAC address, as those bytes may not be printable characters.

The code that printf "Physical address" using %.2X is the one to use.

Your code works well in Debug or Release mode for me (VS2012), but as my first NIC has 0x00 as first byte, the final printf prints nothing.

OK, i need to convert my MAC adress to characters in a char*, it's in order to generate a unique ID for calculate a serial key. Ma question is : if the first byte is 0x00, does this can create problems in the sprintf_s function ? How can i convert mac adress in character who have 0x00 as first byte ? The conventional way of convert a MAC address in a string of characters is to use the "01-de-ad-99-00-42" format (6 bytes printed as hexa values, separated by hyphen). See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address There is no problems passing a null byte matching a %c in printf_s –  manuell Nov 28 '13 at 10:20
    
The problem is because of the 0x00 in the char* ! I replace char* by a byte* and all is ok :) –  Walter Fabio Simoni Nov 29 '13 at 7:15
