I have recently started to create a 2D side scroller game, using only Mac OSX Mavericks' java 7 libraries, when I got to multiplayer, I was able to create client and server handlers for my game and they work just fine when the client sends data to 'localhost' but when I use my external IP the server never receives the data, I believe it is a problem with the client considering that it works when the client is told to send to 'localhost' but not my external IP, I have port forwarded the port and local IP of the server and my Mac's firewall is disabled. Is there a problem with UDP datagram sockets in java 7 or on macs?

can you be more specific about that external server address you're talking about? have you tried to ping your external server address? Please tell me if you're able to reach it with ping –  Martin Frank Dec 17 '13 at 10:53
    
The external address i am using is just my wan ip, you can find it at ipchicken.com , And no I haven't pinged it, i'll see what it is then try to do so. thanks. –  user2693587 Dec 18 '13 at 4:30
    
open a command shell, (cmd.exe) and type type 'ping www.google.com', then you see the results; try to ping your server by simply typing 'ping 192.168.0.1' (i don't know your servers ip) –  Martin Frank Dec 18 '13 at 5:01

ok, you can ping it, that means can exclude the problem, that the server is unreachable! thats good so far! check your firewall settings if port and protocol are allow! Java socket works good, so the problem is not in java... it's somewhere between those two sockets! –  Martin Frank Dec 18 '13 at 5:35
