I hope someone can help me. My code:

The Datatypes:

int ASpalten;
int AZeilen;
int BSpalten;
int *meta; //used to transfer meta data in 1 send
double *MA; //Matrix A

The program is supposed to multiply 2 matrices using MPI. My sample matrix proves that the code is likely valid and I also get this running for up to 130 * 90 matrices (maybe more maybe less), but anyway, as soon, as the number increases, I am getting a possible deadlock: the console prints out "debug4" and that's it. I would be very grateful, if anyone has a clue what is going wrong in my program. I already tried to use MPI_INTEGER instead of MPI_INT, but there is no difference. Any help would be appreciated. The output of the console when using very tiny matrices (PS, I already tried to execute my testcases in different orders too and modified existing ones):

It seems that process 0 sends messages to proc 0 and proc 0 does receive them.

I modified to

  for(i=1;i<numprocs;i++)

to remove the deadlock.

Thank you for your answer Francis. I will test it asap. But should not the program always deadlock if this is a problem? I changed it earlier to 0 to prevent a deadlock when I had many bugs in my program no idea though why it sorted a problem out. Hopefully it will work tomorrow. –  user1497119 Dec 17 '13 at 18:16
    
@user1497119 : I don't know why i=0 works on small sizes and why it fails on large sizes. I was able to reproduce your problem and changing for i=1 solved it. I assume the messages are not handled in the same way depending on their size (internal features of MPI implementation ?). Hope it will help ! Bye, Francis –  francis Dec 17 '13 at 18:37
    
MCA btl: parameter "btl_self_eager_limit" (current value: <131072>, data source: default value) - that's why it "works" with smaller matrices. –  Hristo Iliev Dec 18 '13 at 9:09
    
@HristoIliev : thanks ! Now we have a full explaination of the problem. I did not know anything about MCA btl self eager limit, which is the maximum size of "short" messages (I rode this in ompi_info --param btl self) –  francis Dec 18 '13 at 17:56
