I migrated a database from sqlite3 to mysql and experienced a very sharp degradation in performance for write operations. While reading data is fine (and is maybe even a little bit faster), write operations take about 5 - 10 times as long.
I have two theories, why this could be:
Price for concurrent access: Sqlite3 locks the whole database when it is writing. Certainly this makes things easier and possibly also much faster.
(Un)optimized queries: The sqlite3 database was developed for over a year and some queries were optimized to run faster (for example sometimes just changing the order of the tables in a join can make it run magnitudes faster) - maybe mysql needs different optimizations.
Is this plausible? Are there any other plausible reasons for a write-only performance degradation? Does anybody have experience with BOTH mysql and sqlite3?
