I have a large list like this

This list comes from a split of a data frame, I want to select a specific position of every level and keep the 3 variables's information. I was trying to write a for loop for doing it but I can't find the way of subsetting correctly.

For example, if you choose position 1 you should get

             nombre                          heartattack               state.name
    POSITION 1 OF $AK$nombre)         POS 1 OF $AK$heartattack       POS 1 OF $AK$state.name
    POSITION 1 OF $AL$nombre          POS 1 OF $AL$heartattack       POS 1 OF $AL$state.name
    POSITION 1 OF....

I make a real example with a smaller list just to have the same variables

please provide a real example, something like: list(a=mtcars, b=mtcars[1:4, ], c = CO2, d = CO2[1:4, ]) and what you expect the outcome to be. –  Tyler Rinker Jan 25 at 21:37

This gets pretty close:

      plyr::ldply(dat,function(x) data.frame(pos=i,x[i,])) }

Unless I'm doing something silly, ldply doesn't preserve rownames.

rn <- function(dat,i) {
    plyr::laply(dat,function(x) rownames(x)[i])
}
f0 <- f(d,2)
rownames(f0) <- rn(d,2)
##               .id pos  mpg cyl  disp  hp drat    wt  qsec vs am gear carb
## Mazda RX4 Wag   a   2 21.0   6 160.0 110 3.90 2.875 17.02  0  1    4    4
