I'm trying to combine the use of RecognizerIntent and TextToSpeech to make the phone respond to certain commands given by the user using RecognizerIntent.
The for-loop in the onActivityResult method checks the possible inputs from the user against the texts string-array.
The log-cat messages run, but the text will not be spoken.

Here's my Java code:

If you look closer, your onPause() is shutingdown your tts, so when you are back in onActivityResult, your tts is no longer valid - you should reinitialize it again before use. At least this looks like probable cause, you should have some logcat bug entries or even exceptions. Also calling Thread.sleep(10000); on UI thread is always a bad idea.
