I have an android app which consists of a Button.
When you click on Button, an image should be captured from the camera without opening the camera application (the image should be captured in background).
How to implement this feature?
Any suggestions will be of great help.

You have to create a fake Surface view that doesn't appears to the users and then you can achieve by the following code

Note: I updated my solution with new answer below. it's possible now to run Camera in background using Service. it's worked perfectly with me !

My old answer: I think it's impossible to run Camera code in Background because it's required to activity Context. But I've an approach maybe good for you anyway it will running in UI Thread.

By Using this Trick:

1- Try to create translucent activity, then create Surfaceview with 1dp height and width so it doesn't shown to user.

2- after taken your picture, Finish your activity directly.

Hema : Thanks for the help. In fact i have already resolved this issue. I had a situation where in, i was supposed to capture 7 images on a single button click. I have now successfully implemented it :) –  Amith_Nagraj Apr 17 '14 at 21:35
