I have this code and it's applied to a form. For every word in the richtextbox it looks if it's present in a txt file that i'm using as a dictionary and if not it changes the color of that word to red. I know the code opens and closes the stream for every word and I'm fixing that soon.

The problems are:

  1. If the first words of the file are the same it changes the color of the last one only
  2. If the last word it's wrong the new text that you input it's going to be red
  3. How can I underline the wrong words like bad spelling from Word?

  • Can you give sample of text in the file and text in the text box? Also can you add some comments to your code so it's easier to understand since your code is not in English.

    You aren't highlighting the word from within the while loop to make it red.

    The text in the file are 28000 italian words, one for each line. The text in the Textbox is normal text, like a txt file, infact this is a function for a file editor. Feb 20, 2014 at 21:22

  • When you select new text in the RichTextBox, it will no longer highlight what was previously selected. So after you call Select(indice, s.Length); that is your opportunity to apply the SelectionColor. So move the SelectionColor call inside your while loop.

Here is a working example, added caching of the words so you don't read the file each time, trimmed all the words, put all the words to lower case and optimized the logic. I have added the comments to make the code easy to read and understand.

  • You don't need the SelectionStart and SelectionLength settings, you already selected the text with the Select call at the beginning of the loop.
