I'm trying to develop a Unity 3D app which takes a high-resolution photo from the front camera every few seconds, without user interaction. The app will be a component of an off-the-shelf mapping robot, so it must do all the focussing, etc necessary to get a good image that it can work with (in this case upload to the cloud to process and work out where to go).

Unity 3D has the WebCamTexture approach to grabbing images from device cameras, but I want high-res images, and the results seem just to be frames at video resolution.

I decided the best way to go was to implement this part as a native plugin, to focus, take a picture, and save it.

Ricardo RendonCepeda has given some great code for doing (almost) this in another question: iOS: Capture image from front facing camera, but it's implemented as something which fits with a "UIViewController with a UIImageView" and I have no idea how to modify it to fit into a stand-alone plugin method to bring into Unity.

Can anyone offer advice on the changes needed? Ideally I want to have this code save the image to a filename specified in the Unity 3D method call.
