I am facing a weird problem.

First I would explain the purpose of my code.

Its a webscrapping code in python which extracts information from the website and insert them into my local host.

The whole program is this

At the end of the code, it checks the unique column of my database (which i am getting from the website) that if its there, the scrapping stops (because i dont want to scrap the same data multiple times)

The part of the code which does this job is this

Now, I have 3 different python programs which does the same extraction for 3 different websites. I have to run these 3 programs at the same time named AppFlatForRent.py, AppFlatForRent.py, AppFlatForRent.py

Problem

When i run these 3 programs individually, they run perfectly but when i try to run the programs using cron or python subprocess.Popen method, one of the 3 programs returns 1 in the row variable even when the database is empty- which terminates the program from the start.

I dont know why whenever i try to run these programs concurrently, the row variable becomes 1 and skips one of the 3 programs

* Methods i am trying for concurrency*

  1. This runs 13 programs concurrently with skipping the AppFlatForRent.py because of returning 1 in the row variable and terminating the program.

    1. Cron tab- It also ignores one program AppFlatForRent.py after returning row variable to 1 and terminating it

Both methods above give this kind of error by terminating one of the program but when i run the program which is terminated while running concurrently, it runs fine.

Note

  • I think there is something wrong with the way I am inserting data
  • All the python programs are exactly same except that there are different webpage links for extracting data

Please help. I am trying to solve this problem from past 24 hours! help!!

How about using multiprocessing to run all the scripts in a dedicated process and schedule the multiprocessing script via cron job? –  Dschoni Mar 25 at 14:51
    
There is no error in the cronjob statement above. What evidence do you have that "VillaHouseForSale.py" doesn't run? –  Robᵩ Mar 25 at 17:35

I propose using Multiprocessing to run scripts at the same time. Maybe you could even make the whole setup simpler, by not packing the the scripts in different programms and change only a simple variable like this:

homepage_lis=[google, facebook, twitter]

def data_getter(homepage):
    do_something(homepage)  
    return (result_from_homepage)

def data_saver(result): 
    do_something_with(result) 

def apply_async_with_callback():
    pool = mp.Pool(processes=4)
    for i in len(homepage_lis):
        pool.apply_async(data_getter, args = (homepage_lis[i]), callback = data_saver)
    pool.close()
    pool.join()

if __name__ == '__main__':
    apply_async_with_callback()

Tweak the process number according to the number of cores/threads you have availabe.
