I am having problems with returning a pointer to an array of objects. After entering in all of the information and it goes smoothly, when I try to print out the array of objects only using pointers, the first record is printed out correctly and the next record is just jumbled up numbers. I think the problem is in the return and assignment of getting the company employees. Right now, I think only the first record is being returned out of the get_employees() function. Am I wrong on this end, or it also might be assigning the new pointer to the database created. I can not figure out what the problem is. I am aware the the name of an array is a pointer to the first record, I just don't know how to not lose? the other records.

There are two ways of solving your problem.

  1. Return a pointer to objects stored in the database.
  2. Return an object from the list of objects stored in the database.

To simplify this answer, let' work with a simple struct.

Note that all heap allocated objects except for the one that you wanted (i.e. company_employee_bonus_record *) are now allocated on the stack. This helped to clean things up to the point where I could focus on your logic.

It seems that your main problem was that you were trying to return an object allocated on the heap from a function that called new to allocate the storage. This won't work. The correct approach is to return a pointer from said function.

This design could be improved by also keeping the company_employee_bonus_record structures on the stack. The easiest method would probably be to store them in a vector. Nevertheless if you apply the above diffs you should have a working program.
