Using Twitter API from Java in Google App Engine and I am trying to verify credentials to get the id_str and I am getting error 32 - Could not authenticate you https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1.1/get/account/verify_credentials

I have worked through https://dev.twitter.com/docs/auth/implementing-sign-twitter and got the accessToken and secret OK.

If I overwrite the oauth_nonce and oauth_timestamp with the examples in the OAuth tool then my Signature base string and Authorization header match the example so I guess my signing part is OK.

I wonder if it is the way I'm issuing the GET from Java? I have been experimenting but am a bit stuck. I am trying to better understand how oAuth works, that is why I haven't used a library. Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

I ran into the same problems so I looked for a library that could provide the Twitter OAuth for me. I found Twitter4j and have had a lot of success with it.

Twitter4J is available at http://twitter4j.org/.

If for some reason you can't use Twitter4J, maybe you could look at its source code to find out how they implemented the OAuth on the part your stuck.
