I am trying to create a Parent-Child relationship using Spring-data-jpa, hibernate, spring-data, H2 (for tesitng), and eventually Postgress (production).

Here are the tables defined in h2.sql:

Your mapping isn't correct: a bidirectional association must have an owner side, and an inverse side, marked by the mappedBy attribute. In a OneToMany, the One side must be the inverse side. And of course, if you have a OneToMany between Menu and MenuItem, you must have a ManyToOne between MenuItem and Menu, not a OneToOne. Also note that targetEntity is useless: the list is a List<MenuItem>, so Hibernate knows that the target entity is MenuItem. –  JB Nizet Apr 14 at 17:06
    
I changed my mapping but I still get the same error message. It looks correct to me based upon other examples I have seen. This makes me wonder if its the way the transactions are being used in spring-boot, but that is a wild guess. –  sonoerin Apr 14 at 18:46
    
Spock probably doesn't know anything about the Spring Boot bootstrap features. Does it know about @Transactional? As far as your Boot usage is concerned, all of your MyConfiguration can probably be deleted (except possibly you need @EntityScan for the pacakges where your @Entities live). Spring Boot already enables @Transactional and defines a transaction manager for you. –  Dave Syer Apr 16 at 15:30
    
I have another test (not shown) that inserts and retrieves a single Menu into H2. Its only the @OneToMany that fails. Regarding the MyConfiguration, I thought I would need there because I will eventually have a @Profile("test") for this stuff, and a @Profile"production") for when I build a WAR and deploy to Tomcat. –  sonoerin Apr 16 at 17:19

The answer to this problem lies with Spock and Spring integration. The mappings were all correct, but Spock and Spring weren't playing nicely together. I updated the question to show the correct way to run the integration test.
