I wanted to do multitable search.I have a database in MS Access with 4 tables.So I made 1 more table Index1 which contains the field from all the 4 tables that the user will search.(sort of index/master table). The problem is that the search is not displaying as many records as ideally it should,It displays only few of them. Kindly enlighten me by finding the bug in my code. Thanks in advance !

So, when i queried for dig (partial string search), it should ideally retrieve all records containing digital multiactive,closed digitally,digital active,digital dashboard pivot table,digital acquisitions etc. which are present in different tables so it should have entered many tables and fetched records but it doesnt do so. In this case it entered only one table and fetched the record –  user3444944 Apr 17 '14 at 11:09

Check your logic again. In this loop

while (rs.next()) {
    sqlResult = rs.getString(1);

}

you are looping through the first ResultSet, repeatedly assigning

sqlResult = rs.getString(1); 

and then doing nothing with it until you hit the end of that while loop, after which you proceed to do some other stuff with the last row fetched by that first query.

Probably you are right.so how should I correct it ? Should I add a while loop before all the if statements? bcoz actually the looping has to occur there as multiple tables will have matching string that user might be searching. How should it be done. –  user3444944 Apr 17 '14 at 12:48
    
@user3444944 Put the code to search the individual tables inside the first while loop so it gets executed for each value returned by the initial query against the "index table". –  Gord Thompson Apr 17 '14 at 13:00

Access works different. Use "*" instead of "%" for the like.

Not in this case. For queries against an ACE/Jet ("Access") database from outside of the Microsoft Access application itself the percent sign (%) is the correct wildcard character to use. –  Gord Thompson Apr 17 '14 at 11:49
    
I had to check this... MSDN says the following: The asterisk should only be used as a wild-card character when executing via DAO, or directly from Microsoft Access. When using ADO or ADO.NET the percent symbol should be used. This is not ODBC or OLEDB, so I am not sure. –  Anthony Horne Apr 17 '14 at 12:03
