So I have two KML files that load based on the different zoom levels. Then I parse the files and create links that are supposed to pan to the given lat lng based on the KML file. However whenever I click on one of the links it gives me this error:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'panTo' of null

I have checked and panToPoint is returning the correct values for the first two points on of the polygon in the KML file but when the map.panTo is called it gives that error above. Can anyone tell me why that is?

What does the HTML look like? Any chance of a fiddle that reproduces the problem? –  geocodezip Apr 18 at 23:30

Your map variable is local to the initialize function.

Remove "var" from in front of it inside the initialize function:
