I'm using this code to apply the editTextPreference title when the user put a value inside the box. The problem is that when I click on "ok" it doesn't change the title but only if I re-click on the editTextPreference it applies the before-written value.

public void handleTEST(){
  final EditTextPreference pref = (EditTextPreference)findPreference("test");       
    pref.setOnPreferenceClickListener(new Preference.OnPreferenceClickListener(){   
        @Override
        public boolean onPreferenceClick(Preference preference) {
            pref.setTitle(pref.getText());

            return true;
        }
    });

}

So how can I apply the title on "OK" click?

Nope if I click on OK button it doesn't apply the title but only if I reclick on the edit text. There is a method like "onPositiveButtonClick"? –  user3552780 Apr 20 at 9:06

As far as I can understand, you just want to display the value stored in preference in the title of that particular preference. So try this:

public void handleTEST(){
    final EditTextPreference pref = (EditTextPreference) findPreference("test");
    pref.setTitle(PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(getApplicationContext()).getString("test", "Default Title"));
    // Loads the title for the first time
    // Listens for change in value, and then changes the title if required.
    pref.setOnPreferenceChangeListener(new Preference.OnPreferenceChangeListener() {
        @Override
        public boolean onPreferenceChange(Preference preference, Object newValue) {
            pref.setText(newValue.toString());
            return false;
        }
    });
}

This answer is correct, simple and to the point, but I just need to point out how much redundant code this will yield with multiple different settings. So if you need this for multiple settings, I encourage you to move to a solution using one OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener per settings page, as I tried to demonstrate in my answer. –  cYrixmorten Apr 20 at 10:18
    
I agree that if I use an anonymous inner class, the code cannot be re used. So, I would only use an anonymous class if I'm absolutely sure that I'll not have to use it again anywhere. Thanks for pointing that out. :) –  Ankit Popli Apr 20 at 10:33

The Preferences object simply access read/write of sharedPreferences, here is for instance the get/set of String values:

It is what I read. When you change a value of a shared preference value, you want the text shown in the preference activity/fragment to update accordingly? Otherwise please post the full class using the code in your question in order to add some more context to what you want. –  cYrixmorten Apr 20 at 8:44

This is what my code does, only it changes summary and not title, but the idea is valid. The approach being to capture the change of a preference value in onSharedPreferenceChanged instead of handling clicks of each and every PreferenceView. If you post the full class code containing handleTEST(), I will try and implement it for you. –  cYrixmorten Apr 20 at 8:51
