I have an application that will not return objects from the second level cache when the objects are in an inheritance structure ( it successfully works when the objects are standalone objects)

when I look at the debug when the query is being called it is attempting to use the table name as the key rather than the value of the primary key, it's pretty leftfield and really I am lost as to why this is happening.

Here is superclass definition...

SO you can see it is using both the object table names to look in the cache and it finds nulls then it goes to call the DB again.

If I look in the cache using stats I can see the object with the right key which is the primary key, the query run the first time selects the object Node fine and places it in the cache with the right key, but when it comes back for a second time us uses the table name to look up the cache.

ehcache.xml is standard, uses default values and as said it works for other objects not in the inheritance structure. The table names are nowhere else, database or code level, only in the entity table name definition. I am guessing this is to do with the ID generation in the superclass but not entirely sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hibernate and ehcache is 4.5.3 final
