I haven't been a member long, but with the few posts I have made so far, the community seems very helpful and understanding. So I was wondering if someone could once again help me out here. My task is to create an entity class for a simple alarm clock, and it seemingly works just fine except one minor problem in a method that displays the time. The two types of options it has to print is one set of scenarios where the alarm clock is off and it simply displays the time. The other set of scenarios it displays the time, but if the alarm method returns true is also displays "ringing" at the end of the time display. My problem is that it tends to only print the scenarios where the alarm returns true. Despite the fact I have a method that sets it false when called, it continues to display "ringing" even when I call this method. To note, when I call one of my getters to see if the alarm is ringing, it correctly returns the correct response, so this leads me to believe that the problem lies in my last two methods starting at ln184, which contains if-else statements and printfs.

here is a dummy driver of sorts I have been using that sets the alarm and then loops to it:

Sorry if this is too lengthy at all. I've said it before, but I'm still very much so a novice programmer, so some of it may look a little unorthodox, especially my last two methods. But this problem is baffling me, and I have no other guidance. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

if ((isAlarmRinging = true) && looks like a problem to start with - you mean ==, not =. Or ideally, just if (isAlarmRinging && ... –  Jon Skeet Apr 24 at 20:36

Quick look but if ((isAlarmRinging = false) should be if ((isAlarmRinging == false) or even better if ((!isAlarmRinging). = assignment and == comparison. –  ZouZou Apr 24 at 20:36
