I'm having a hard time setting up models for a coordinate based app. I currently have three models: Chart, Device, Recipe, and Coordinate.
My goal is to define these this way:
- A chart can have many devices
- A device can only have one recipe
- A recipe can be associated with many charts
- A recipe has a particular set of ordered x,y coordinate pairs. Meaning, each x,y should have an auto increment id starting from 1 and going to N.
The user should create a chart, add devices to the chart, associated a recipe to each device, and add coordinates to the recipe. If another chart were to be created, they should be able to see all the devices in the db, after selecting or adding the device, they should be able to see all the recipes in the db, after selecting the recipe for the device they should be able to see the coordinates associated with it. It seems that there is submodel relationships here. Models are hierarchal.
My end goal is to have to have a form like this:
Chart: (Type in name for chart to add)
Device: (Shows all the devices associated with the chart)
Recipe: (For each device, a drop down with all the available recipes in DB. If recipe doesn't exist, then have an add option)
Coordinates: (Show all the x,y pairs associated with the recipe that was selected above. Coordinates should have an auto-increment field of 1,2,3...etc so there's an order to them. Should be able to add or delete coordinates.)
I'm assuming if I setup my model the right way, making a form like this should be straight forward using Django's builtin form package. I may be underestimating the complexity of this... I've been using django/python for ~1 month.
