I'm working on a simple HTTP server for testing of my HTTP client, and for this I created an endpoint that stores custom cookies based on HTTP request. Controller and logic are below (written in Groovy 2.2.1, using Spring Boot 1.0.1 and Spring Boot web starter 1.1.0; run in Jetty 9.1.5).

Now, I've performed some manual testing, i.e. I've tried to open endpoint <address of context>/cookies?name=a&value=b in Chromium (Version 34.0.1847.116 Ubuntu 13.10 (260972))- and it worked as expected. I checked RMB -> Inspect element -> "Resources" tab -> Cookies -> localhost (since test server ran on my machine), and I could see cookie with name a, value b, and path and domain based on request. But then, I've tried opening <address of context>/cookies?name=a&value=b&domain=c - and after checking (the same way), I spotted that domain in browser was still based on request URL, not Set-Cookie response header. The same goes with "path".

I've checked this with telnet, to be sure, that Spring MVC formats Set-Cookie header in a good way:

Connection closed by foreign host.

Then I checked HTTP cookies RFC and, according to it, what I've got in this minimum telnet session should work as I expected.

Question

So, the question is: what is the reason for this Chromium behavior? Have I found bug in browser (because if so, I should open a bug issue on their tracker), or is it because of something I don't know? Or maybe Chromium team decided to partially ignore RFC for some security reasons (maybe with custom domain and path you could act as someone else? I don't know)?

PS. I'm still kinda new to Spring, so presented code may have some issues, like by-hand parsing of booleans, but it is not what I'm asking about, so please - focus on cookie issue ;)
