I'm doing GUI for the first time and I'm having some trouble taking user input from one class and then use the information in a different class Here is my code:

I really doubt that we need the entire class(es) to reproduce the problem. Pare it down so that you have the one class causing the pain. – Makoto Jun 1 '14 at 3:28

Your initComponents() method has this instruction:

jLabel1.setText(title + "has been added to inventory");

So you're trying to us a variable named title. And I don't see any local variable, parameter of field having this name. So the compiler tries to find such a field in the base classes, and it finds one in java.awt.Frame (that your class extends through JFrame), but this field is private, so you can't use it.
