I have issues linking yaml-cpp code. The weird thing is that it is compiler dependent. I am using homebrew to get yaml-cpp and gcc-4.8 . I have a simple program

  YAML::Node yparams_;
  yparams = YAML::LoadFile("test.yaml");

  printf("all good\n");
  return 0;
}

It compiles and runs fine, if I use the 'g++' provided with mac

g++ test.cpp $(pkg-config --cflags --libs yaml-cpp) -o test

However, exchanging 'g++' to the homebrewed 'g++-4.8' gives me a long list of linker errors (attached below). If I run 'brew doctor' I do not get any warning. 'brew info yaml-cpp' returns with:

You generally cannot link together things built with different C++ compilers, or different versions of the same compiler. You will get linker errors at best, mysterious crashes at run time or incorrect results at worst. –  n.m. Jul 22 '14 at 16:02

More precisely, it looks like your preinstalled gcc uses libc++, and is therefore probably a clang++ in disguise, while your brewed g++ is a bona fide g++ using libstdc++. Check it witg g++ -v or whatever. If this is the case, you cannot use the two compilers together to compile interdependent pieces of C++ code in the same prigram. –  n.m. Jul 22 '14 at 16:38
    
You are right, the preinstalled gcc is a clang compiler. I guess homebrew uses the preinstalled compiler to install yaml-cpp. This is probably the reason, why I cannot link against it, when I use the custom gcc-4.8 to build my test program ... –  Alex Jul 22 '14 at 17:34
