I have one table in my database. It is a company directory android app. I want to group companies by category. Category is one of the attributes of my table. I am following this example. The issue I am facing is implementing fetchGroup() method. This is because in the example, they have a separate table for groups. How do you implement this method if I want to group by one of the attributes?

Here is my activity class:

  • First, I get the groups in a query (SELECT DISTINCT Group FROM TheTable). Then, for each group, I get the children (SELECT Child FROM TheTable WHERE Group = ?). In your case, I'd do: String query = "SELECT DISTINCT id_department FROM employee"; instead of String query = "SELECT * FROM employee"; Aug 19, 2014 at 10:29
