I have a class object that will be accessed throughout my web application. It contains globally shared information, and I don't want to create an instance of it every time I need it (doing so is bad right?). This is how I'm doing it right now, but I don't know if it's safe

class GlobalDI
{
       public static readonly BaseProfile Profile;
       static GlobalDI(){
          Profile = new BaseProfile(){
           SignatureKey = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["CX_SignatureKey"],
           Username = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["CX_Username"],
           AppID = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["CX_AppID"],
           Password = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["CX_Password"],
          };
       }
}

What are some safe ways to do this? Thanks in advance.

I don't know. Just thought it might save resources if I only have one global instance and use that instance instead of creating a new one each time. –  x2500 Jul 21 '10 at 18:39
    
It's safe if it is read-only and if you do not mind exposing the password to every assembly that uses your class. Also use a public static BaseProfile Profile { get; private set } as you might change the getter's behaviour later. Thanks Jaroslav! If the password is exposed to every assembly, would that mean it's exposed to outside public as well? Or one can only access it within my assemblies? –  x2500 Jul 21 '10 at 19:20
    
the password will be exposed to any assembly that has access to (references) the assembly containing the GlobalDI class within your application domain. Someone can inject (ICLRRuntimeHost) an assembly to your process and read that value (if he has access to the process, he could probably easily read the web.config instead, though). You can make the configuration class internal and it will only be available to your assembly + friendly assemblies (InternalsVisibleToAttribute Attribute). –  Jaroslav Jandek Jul 22 '10 at 9:01
