I have a table tblEvent and another table tblContact. There is a field ContactID in tblEvent that is linked by a foreign key to ContactID in tblContact. I've triple checked; the foreign key is in the database.

The Entity Framework model DOES NOT generate a navigation property and foreign key association for it as it does for the other foreign keys.

What could be different about this foreign key that EF does not generate a navigation property for it?

Is ContactID build from a Unique Key or a Primary Key? Could we see the SQL –  John Hartsock Nov 10 '10 at 1:30
that SQL has no tblEvent, only a FK to tblLanguage. Which FK are you having the problem with? tblEvent or tblLanguage. We need to see the SQL for the tblContact AND tblEvent. –  RPM1984 Nov 10 '10 at 9:22

I found the solution here:

The reason it was not recognizing it is was because the table had a unique non-clustered index on the foreign key field.

Apparently, a unique, non-clustered index allows for a null value which can't be mapped.

What is the solution then? I'm using an Id as primary key and a GUID to reference to another table. I wouldn't like to use the GUID as primary key. I know I can just use another attribute as the clustered index, but it just seems wrong. –  NSAddict May 3 '14 at 11:30

if you are are using 3.5sp1 that could be the issue.

This article touches on some of the changes and if nothing else you can always manually add the fk association in the entity designer as described in the article.

This is .NET 4.0. What's crazy is it recognizes the OTHER foreign keys--just not this one and two others. The other foreign keys it does recognize. –  rsteckly Nov 10 '10 at 5:57
