I am trying to code a small test-server for completion ports. But when I try to call AcceptEx... it always returns WSAEINVAL as the winsock error code... I don´t really get what was my mistake

You really don't want that while(true) loop there... And if you do want to post more that one async accept then you need to create a 'newSock' for each call to AcceptEx. –  Len Holgate Dec 4 '10 at 19:33

Te problem in your code is this:

The second parameter of the AcceptEx Function (in this case newSock) must be a unconnected and unbound socket, then when a new connection arrives the newSock parameter will be an invalid parameter (because now is connected), to avoid this a New Socket Handle must be created, but the loop must wait until the new connection arrives, to do this a WSAEVENT must be use. The first the function WSAEventSelect must be used to associate the FD_ACCEPT Network event with the WSAEVENT, this mus be done before the creation of the AcceptThread:

The AcceptThread Then Call The AcceptEx Function and Wait for a New Connection, when a new connection arrives the newSock is Added to the Completion port and a new Socket is created, this thread have only the elements required to accept connections:

Yes, but I have not used AcceptEx and I supposed that this function uses WSAEventSelect to check for incoming connections, of couse the WSAWaitForMultipleEvents must be called on a connection accept thread, maybe this documents would help you: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc302334.aspx codeproject.com/KB/IP/SimpleIOCPApp.aspx –  Luis G. Im sorry for being so rude. I thought, that -when a new connection is made- one event completion packet would be queued to the completion port... but that does not seem to happen. I want the worker threads to handle the new connection socket, not the "parental" function –  Incubbus Dec 3 '10 at 4:46
    
Yes the acceptex will be queued to the completion port when the accept happens; assuming you've set it up correctly. –  Len Holgate Dec 3 '10 at 7:51
    
So I did it wrong... but I don´t want to wait for the AcceptEx to be cmpleted in the AcceptEx-calling thread... that´s what You did in your correction. –  Incubbus Dec 3 '10 at 8:19
SOCKET newSock = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP);

should use WSASocket rather than socket and you should pass the WSA_FLAG_OVERLAPPED flag when creating the socket.

sockets created with socket() can be used as overalpped ones by default, because they have the overlapped by default (that´s what the msdn says) –  Incubbus Dec 3 '10 at 8:18
