I already posted the question how to add acronym tags to HTML text and got a nice solution (see Use xslt:analyze-string to add acronyms to HTML ). Thank you!

Now I added synonyms to my acronyms and adapted the solution - it works fine.

My only question: is it useful to put the xsl:analyze-string instruction for the synonyms inside the xsl:non-matching-substring part of the first xsl:analyze-string of the main word (name)? Are there other ways to implement this?

You're complicating things again! ;-)

Dimitries excellent solution could easily be adjusted to suit your needs without introducing another xsl:analyze-string.

All you need to do is make a union of the @names and synonyms when you call my:replace-words:

my:replace-words($text, ($acronyms/@name|$acronyms/synonym))

Then adjust the function my:replace-words accordingly by removing the parameter synonyms and using xsl:value-of in xsl:non-matching-substring as you did before.

Replace your current function my:insert-acronyms with:
