I can't figure out how to make the program look in a specific folder instead of the root of the SD card. I have tried to change the path of the files, but all it says is that it's unable to find the files.

Well, I do not have the library, but looking at the documentation you will need to open the directory first. After you obtained the root volume, do something like

root.open(root, "mydir");

probably shortly after

When you unzipped the library, it comes with some HTML documentation for the classes of the FAT library. If my suggestion does not work, consult the documentation.
