I have a ListView that displays all my phone numbers. I have a search filter capability that simply re-queries and attaches a new adapter to my list view.

The trouble I'm having is that the old list is still visible on the screen and my new result seems to overlay on it. If I leave the screen and come back everything is fine.

I've tried calling lv.invalidate(), lv.refreshDrawableState, adapter.notifyDataStateChanged(), adapter.notifyDataSetInvalid() and nothing seems to work. I don't think I have this issue when i was using a ListActivity.

Does anyone know whats going on here? Below is my code that run the query and sets the adapter to the ListView

The Address Book Displayed The Bug when I try to filter

Above you can see the result when I try to filter. Note that clicking on the first item shows the correct result and while the other items are visible, they are not clickable. If I open an other activity (by clicking the first item for example) and then hit back, then the list displays as expected.

Edit: Bumping up this one time since I would really like to get an answer, it will keep me from having to re-write the entire UI.

I haven't followed the logic all the way through, but I find it very suspicious that you change adapters in mid-stream. Notice that your adapter adds onClickListeners to two of the list item views. Each of these listeners references the Cursor for the query. When you change Adapters, this won't automatically override those listeners (as far as I know); hence you'll have onClickListeners from the old Adapter, referencing a now-obsolete Cursor. I think the more common pattern is to keep the Adapter, and change its underlying Cursor. –  Dan Breslau Feb 10 '11 at 17:34
    
@Dan, you are probably correct. The adapter has to be re-written to use an ArrayList rather than just manipulating the cursor. The onClickListners are attached to a call and sms button. @Sebastian thanks, I tried that, no dice. –  Ali Feb 10 '11 at 20:14
